Publication of Medatlas - the atlas of the wind and waves of the Mediterranean
21-03-2006
Over the past few years, Thetis has been collaborating with a number of European partners, such as CNR-ISMAR, Communication and Systems, the National Technical University of Athens, Meteofrance and Semantic, to put together an atlas of the wind and waves of the Mediterranean Sea. The creation of Medatlas has been possible thanks to sponsorship from the Italian, Greek and French Navies through the Western European Armaments Organisation (WEAO) Research Cell. The result of the project was the publication of the atlas, which is currently available in a double version, comprising the atlas and a CD-ROM. Although developed with extreme care from the scientific point of view, the producers have also guaranteed the information contained can be used practically. It is the best source of knowledge currently available about weather conditions (wind and waves) in the Mediterranean basin.

Presentation of the "Atlante della Laguna, Venezia tra terra e mare"
06-02-2006
The “Atlante della laguna, Venezia tra terra e mare” was presented on Friday, 3rd February in the Santa Margherita Auditorium in Venice. This impressive book was compiled by Venice Town Council’s naturalist observatory for the lagoon in collaboration with the CNR – the Institute of Marine Science of Venice. As Venice Town Councillor for the environment, Laura Fincato, wrote in the introduction: “This work has enabled Venice Town Council to collect and organise the huge quantity of scientific knowledge built up over the years by the many different bodies working within the environment of Venice Lagoon. The main aims are to provide information about the incredible complexity of this important ecosystem and understand its natural dynamics and those produced by man. This will make it possible to better understand distinct elements and the fragile balances in and around the lagoon, and consequently improve the environmental awareness of those decisions made by the various levels of territorial government”. Andrea Barbanti, Martina Bocci, Anna Carlin and Matteo Ombrelli from Thetis SpA were involved in drafting the Atlante.
