An article on VIAJEO appears i n "The Parliament"

The magazine of the European Parliament, The Parliament, set just the right tone in its article on the VIAJEO Project, a European project under the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) that involves various international partners. The article (see attached), which was published in the most recent issue of “The Parliament”, describes the project’s origins and objectives, as well as the partners involved. It focuses on a unique feature of the project – the collaborative effort between the European Community and China to develop innovative solutions that promote sustainable mobility.
The results of the project to date were presented by Paolo Squillante at the workshop held on 8 September 2011 in Beijing. Thanks to the efforts of colleagues in the ITS-Integrated Systems Division, who participated in the project’s development in cooperation with Alessandro Celestino of the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, the project was well received. Philippe Vialatte, Head of the Science, Technology and Environment Section of the EU Delegation to China, gave a positive opinion on the project, stating: “The Viajeo Project is a fine example of EU-Chinese cooperation.  The ‘travel planner’ is clearly a useful tool for promoting the use of public transport, thereby reducing traffic congestion and contributing to the environmental sustainability of urban areas”.

This important recognition represents a milestone in the project and attests to its success.

The system is scheduled to be implemented by the end of December 2011 and the initial results will be evaluated by mid-2012. The final stage of the project, scheduled for July 2012, will be an end-of-project workshop where the results of the project will be presented.
VIAJEO will provide residents with real-time information on public transport and traffic, allowing users to better plan their route and decrease travel time. The information will be posted on a website, which can be consulted via computer or handheld devices (mobile phones, iPADs, PDAs), and on information boards at Beijing’s main bus stops.
