An Italian-Chinese workshop dealing with environmental improvement, was held at Thetis, in Venice

An Italian-Chinese workshop organised by the Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Protection was held at the Arsenale, Venice, in Thetis S.p.A.’s conference room on Saturday, 15th January. The workshop dealt with drawing up an environmental project for the third largest island in China, Chongming, situated beside the estuary of the Yangtze River, in the vicinity of Shanghai. The aim of the project is to build an environmentally compatible urban system using clean energy sources, and to develop environmentally sustainable agricultural and fishing activities.
The Municipality of Shanghai requested that the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Territorial Protection take part in this model programme for sustainable development both during the project development phase and execution of the work. Participants at the Venice workshop exchanged information and experiences in order to kick-start the general project phase. They discussed managing the complex environment of Venice Lagoon which has much in common with Chongming island.
