OceanSites meeting at Thetis, 17-19 September, 2009

On 17-19 September 2009, Thetis will host the Steering Committee and Data Management Team meeting for the international OceanSITES programme in its Arsenale facility. This programme is part of an international ocean observation project that has been developed on a global scale since 1999. The second conference for this project, OceanObs09, will take place in Venice on 21-25 September 2009. (http://www.oceanobs09.net/).The objective of OceanSITES is to create a network of observation stations to continually measure primary oceanographic variables, from the surface to the deep waters, using the most advanced methods and technologies. There are currently more than 60 institutions and 22 countries involved in managing the 60 observation stations distributed among all the Earth’s oceans. This monitoring system is an integral part of the Global Ocean Observing System and permits both scientists and the general public to access the data obtained.
