Thetis Participates in the 6th International SedNet Conference
The 6th International SedNet Conference, entitled "The Role of Sediments in Coastal Mangement”, was recently held in Hamburg.
Established in 2002, SedNet is an international network whose mission is to promote the diffusion of technical-scientific knowledge for proper sediment management in basins and coastal marine environments, and inform policy-makers of all aspects of the sediment management issue (for more info: www.sednet.org).
Thetis contributed to the conference by participating in the round table discussion “Implementation of Sediment Management Issues into the First RBMP Plans” and by giving two presentations in the scientific sessions:
“The Sediment Management Issue in the Venice Lagoon: Lessons Learned and Future Perspectives” - E. Delaney, C. Nasci, M. Picone, M. Bocci, A. Barbanti, L. Montobbio, S. Apitz
“Beneficial Reuse and Morphological Restoration” G. Cecconi.
G. Cecconi participated as an “invited speaker” and provided concrete examples of how, for some time now, the concept of “building with nature” and the integration of environmental and engineering aspects have been applied in the Venice Lagoon.
At the end of the conference, the Chairman of SedNet, Mr. Axel Nezband, announced that the next International Conference will be held in the spring of 2011 in Venice, at Thetis' headquarters, and will focus on issues relating to sediment management in the Mediterranean basin.
