Thetis’ CEO Maria Teresa Brotto to speak at the Summer Ethics Conference 2011

Thetis' CEO Maria Teresa Brotto spoke at the Summer Ethics Conference, which last year was entitled “The Mediterranean and the countries to its north and south: development, relations, changes and the call for dialogue in the present day Mare Nostrum”.

The Venice Port Authority hosted the conference, which  was held on 30 June and 1 July. The event provided an opportunity for dialogue, discussion and reflection on social, economic and political topics of international interest that concern matters of culture, ethics, religion, responsibility and the common good.

The Summer Ethics Conference represents a natural progression in a series of conferences that began in 2007 at Padua University as a closing conference for a post-graduate university course on human rights and businesses. Subsequent conferences in 2009 and 2010, held at the Studium Generale Marcianum, were an important part of the Masters in Business Management and Ethics course and were called “Summer School”.
Although it remains an integral part of the Masters programme, last year the conference was promoted by SDA Bocconi as well as Studium Generale Marcianum and the title has been changed to the "Summer Ethics Conference" to place a greater emphasis on the main theme (ethical behaviour in various areas of action) and stress that the conference is open to anyone interested in the topics being discussed, with no exceptions or restrictions.
After discussing human rights and multinational corporations in developing countries (2008), human capital in a global economic crisis (2009) and future scenarios for relations between Europe and emerging Asian countries (2010), the topic this year will be:
“The Mediterranean and the countries to its north and south: development, relations, changes and the call for dialogue in the present day Mare Nostrum”.

On Thursday 30 June, an international overview was presented, while on Friday 1 July the focus will shift to issues of local importance. The speakers, 18 in all, are representatives of national government institutions, supranational organizations, multinational corporations, local businesses, local authorities, trade associations, academic and educational institutions, banks and banking institutions, and religious institutions.
