Thetis collaborates with Cà Foscari to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

Thetis is collaborating with Venice’s Cà Foscari University on a project aimed at developing a methodology for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Italian universities and institutes of higher education. Cà Foscari will be the ‘testing ground’ for developing a methodology that will subsequently be implemented at all Italian universities. Thetis brings its knowledge in the realm of Carbon & Energy Management, as well as environmental engineering services, to the venture. The project agreement was signed on 23 July 2010 by Carlo Carraro, the university’s Rector, and Corrado Clini, the Director General of the Sustainable Development, Energy and Climate Division of the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS). The project will be modelled on the most effective international examples and will be conducted in cooperation with related IMELS initiatives that are currently in progress.
Thetis’ Integrated Energy Services Division has been involved in the project for several months. The first important achievement was the successful launch of a programme that will ultimately lead to all Italian universities adopting an internal policy for reducing emissions. In addition to the economic benefits that public administrations will obtain through the implementation of good energy efficiency practices, the programme will contribute to creating a culture of sustainability among university students, which in turn will influence their future decision-making when they hold positions in public or private organizations. The project will entail: improving the procedures for monitoring and managing energy consumption in Cà Foscari’s buildings, revising the sustainability criteria employed for selecting and managing external services, informing students about basic concepts relating to energy and climate sustainability, and developing sustainable mobility policies. Thetis can make an important contribution in all of these areas.
