Thetis Joins GBC Italia
Thetis has joined Green Building Council Italia (GBC Italia), positioning itself as a leader in the design and development of sustainable buildings.
While restoring the historical Venice Arsenal which involved integrated design for both energy and architectural aspects and the use of renewable energy installations, Thetis solidified its role as a provider of consulting and engineering services relating to sustainable construction by becoming part of the prestigious association “Green Building Council Italia”.
GBC Italia is a non-profit association that promote the development the independent certification system LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – in Italy. This certification system establishes precise criteria for designing and constructing healthy, energy efficient buildings that have a limited environmental impact.
In addition, GBC Italia is promoting a change in the Italian construction market: the LEED certification system establishes a market value for green buildings, stimulates competition among companies with respect to the environmental performance of buildings and encourages environmentally responsible behaviour among the end users.
Mario Zoccatelli, the President of GBC Italia, made the following comment: “Thetis’ participation increases our association’s prestige and brings additional strength to our efforts to develop and diffuse construction methods that put human health and environmental quality first. GBC Italia intends to enhance the experience that our colleagues at Thetis have acquired, especially with respect to two very important projects: the development of a method to calculate greenhouse gas emissions that can complement and be incorporated into LEED certification, and the development of a common methodology for building with historical, cultural or architectural value, which are so prevalent in our country. The project to restore the historical Venice Arsenal is of great interest to GBC Italia and its members as it combines purely aesthetic and architectural requirements with the objectives of conserving natural resources and reducing the impact that human activities have on the climate”.
Enrico Bigi, COO of Thetis, was also pleased, stating: “In light of the recent creation of an Energy Division within Thetis, which is strengthening all of Thetis’ services relating to sustainable energy and climate, joining GBC Italia is an important step that allows Thetis to capitalize on the expertise it has developed over the years in the field of green building’s practices. Our experts will have an opportunity to collaborate in efforts to promote best construction practices and will establish relationships with hundreds of suppliers and professionals who specialize in high-efficiency solutions".
