Thetis to provide photographic documentation of ICZM in Europe
Integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) is a decision-making process for managing coastal areas.
It adopts an integrated approach that takes into consideration all aspects of the coastal zone, including geographical, political, environmental, cultural, historical, economic and urban development-related factors, with the aim of applying the concepts of sustainable development to regional and urban planning.
The DIAT Division was recently awarded a contract by the DG Environment of the European Commission to assess the current state of implementation of integrated coastal zone management policies in Europe. Project activities will include an examination of national reports prepared by various European countries. The anticipated duration of the project is 4 months. In compiling the final document, the multidisciplinary work group will consult stakeholders from the different countries involved, as well as experts in the field of ICZM.
