Thetis to work for the European Environment Agency (EEA)

As a member of an expert consortium led by AGRECO, Thetis was recently awarded a framework contract to provide specialized assistance to the European Environment Agency (EEA) with respect to integrated environmental assessment. The call for bids, issued by the EEA this past summer, anticipated the assignment of two framework contracts, each having a four-year duration, to European partnerships capable of providing specialized expertise for the development, diffusion and dissemination of integrated environmental assessment at both the Pan-European and regional level. The first of the two contracts, awarded to a consortium led by Stockholm Environment Institute, involves supporting the EEA in drafting the State of the Environment Report (SOER 2010), which will be published in November 2010.
The second contract, valued at 2 million euros, was awarded to Thetis along with AGRECO (leader), AZIMUT (Tunisia), BIOSIS (France), IEEP (UK), REC (Hungary) and the Royal Scientific Society (Jordan); the objective of the contract is to expand environmental assessment processes to Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean region and Central Asia. Anticipated activities include supporting the EEA in preparing for the “Environment for Europe” Ministerial Conference, which will be held in 2011 in Astana, Kazakhstan and is being organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).
This contract was obtained thanks to a collaborative effort among several corporate divisions, including “European Projects – Brussels Office”, the Environmental Studies Department and the Bids and Tenders Department, and represents an important first step in increasing the company’s recognition in Europe.
