Thetis Participates in the 40th Italian Society of Marine Biology Conference

Thetis participated in the annual conference of the Italian Society of Marine Biology (ISMB), held in Livorno from 26-29 May. One of the conference’s primary themes was the identification of potential marine SCI (Sites of Community Importance) sites to add to the Natura 2000 Network.
In fact, the Ministry of the Environment has given the ISMB the task of drawing up a list of Mediterranean marine habitats to add to the lists of Sites of Community Interest, as well as the task of identifying new areas to propose as marine SCIs for the Natura 2000 Network.
Among these sites, particular importance was given to the “tegnue” (rocky formations off the coast of Venice) environments, which were discussed in detail during the conference. In this context, Emiliano Molin of Thetis’ Environmental and Territorial Engineering Division, along with Dr. Giovanni Artico of the Veneto Region's Venice Project Management, presented the work that our company conducted relating to the biological characterization of a few of these environments as part of the monitoring activities stipulated in the Integrated Fusina Project.
The results of this work have increased the biological knowledge about these ecosystems and emphasized how some environmental variables, such a turbidity and sedimentation, are decisive factors for the animal communities living in the “tegnue”.
