Thetis SpA at the annual SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) Europe meeting
The 16th Annual SETAC (Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry) Europe Conference, was held at The Hague in Holland on 7-11 May 2006. During the conference, the controversial aspects of environmental science and its solutions were analysed, in an attempt to reduce the divide between laboratory and on-the-field activity, and between research and environmental policies. The SETAC annual meeting is the main event on environmental toxicology and chemistry in Europe.
Thetis SpA presented a number of posters at the conference on the assessment of lagoon sediments and their management, as well as two papers presenting the preliminary results of the ICSEL project promoted by the Venice Water Management Authority (Magistrato alle Acque di Venezia) through Consorzio Venezia Nuova.
The two papers:
“Development and application of a Multibiomarker Index: a novel approach to environmental assessment” by A. Berton, C. Castellani (Thetis SpA), L. Da Ros (National Research Council, Institute of Marine Science, Venice, Italy), E. Delaney (Thetis SpA), V. Moschino (National Research Council, Institute of Marine Science, Venice, Italy), C. Nasci (Thetis SpA), P. Venier (University of Padua, Biology Department, Padua, Italy), E. Volpato (Thetis SpA), M. Zanella (University of Padua, Biology Department, Padua, Italy);
“Are the sediments of the Venice Lagoon a threat to the ecosystem and how should we manage them accordingly?” by E. Delaney, A. Barbanti (Thetis SpA), A.G. Bernstein (Consorzio Venezia Nuova), L. Da Ros (National Research Council, Institute of Marine Science, Venice, Italy), L. Montobbio (Consorzio Venezia Nuova), C. Nasci (Thetis SpA), P. Venier (University of Padua, Biology Department, Padua, Italy), A. Ghirardini Volpi (University Ca' Foscari of Venice, Dept. of Environmental Sciences, Venice, Italy).
The following is a list of the posters that were presented:
“Assessment of Venice Lagoon Sediments Using International SQGs” by S. E. Apitz (SEA Environmental Decisions, Little Hadham, UK), A. Barbanti e M. Bocci (Thetis SpA), A. G. Bernstein e L. Montobbio (Consorzio Venezia Nuova);
“The luminous brittlestar Amphipholis squamata used with conventional toxicity battery test for sediment quality assessment in the Venice Lagoon (Italy)” by E. Volpato, E Delaney, A. Berton, M. Bergamin, R. Lo Re, A. Mietto, M. Picone, A. Gomiero (Thetis SpA), D. Deheyn (Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD, USA);
“Integrated sediment management in the Venice Lagoon: the SIOSED project” by D. Deheyn (Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD, USA), C. Nasci, A. Barbanti, (Thetis SpA); A.G. Bernstein e L. Montobbio (Consorzio Venezia Nuova), A. Rismondo (SELC);
“Development and application of a multibiomarker index: a novel approach to environmental assessment” by A. Berton, C. Castellani (Thetis SpA), L.
