Thetis to Study the Red Sea

Thetis SpA will perform a specific study for the "Red Sea - Dead Sea Water Conveyance Study Program", a project financed by the World Bank that involves the Palestinian Territories, Israel and Jordan. The project’s objective is to restore the continually-decreasing water level of the Dead Sea by constructing a channel that will connect it to the Red Sea.
The purpose of the study is to analyze oceanographic and ecological processes, and to determine the environmental impact that extracting enormous quantities of sea water would have on the Gulf of Aqaba (also known as the Gulf of Eilat).
Thetis will coordinate the study, assuming the role of team leader, and will manage certain specialized activities (estimation of pollution inputs, assessment of the impact on both the coastal area and socio-economic activities, creation of a databank for the project).
The study will involve collaboration with prestigious local and international partners, including: the Interuniversity Institute for Marine Sciences in Eilat, Israel (the Hebrew University of Jerusalem); the Marine Science Station, University of Jordan / Yarmouk University in Aqaba, Jordan; Israel Oceanographic & Limnological Research Ltd, in Israel; and Prof. Stephen Monismith of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Stanford University, in the United States.
