Thetis to provide the multinational company Arriva with technology for managing transport in Malta
A new international project for the ITS Division: Thetis was selected by the multinational company Arriva to provide technology for managing public transport in Malta.
Arriva will use this technology in fulfilling a 10-year contract it recently signed with the Maltese Government that plans for the replacement of a large portion of the current fleet operating on the islands of Malta and Gozo (264 buses). The new service should be in place by July 2011.
Thetis will provide systems for the real-time tracking of buses’ locations, electronic tickets, video-surveillance, counting passengers and managing the three park-and-ride facilities. These systems will be managed by a control centre that sends the projected arrival times of the buses to approximately 100 electronic screens installed at the terminals and main stops.
Acquired by Deutsche Bahn in August 2010, Arriva is one of the leading international players in the public transport sector. The company employs approximately 38,500 people and offers road, rail and water transport services in 11 European countries. The Malta project will create work for approximately 1,000 people.
