Thetis to draw up report about the state of the Venetian lagoon ecosystem

The DPSIR-2005 project has been launched. On behalf of the Magistrato alle Acque di Venezia (Venice Water Board), the Consorzio Venezia Nuova (New Venice Consortium) has commissioned Thetis to draw up the report about the state of the Venetian lagoon system. Said report will update (to 2005) the knowledge of the lagoon Thetis drew up in the year 2000 within the sphere of the “Orizzonte 2023” project.
The information regarding the various topics of environmental importance for the lagoon ecosystem will be analysed and presented according to the DPSIR conceptual model (Driving forces; Pressure; States; Impacts; Responses). Proposed by the European Environmental Agency (EEA), this model is currently used for drawing up reports regarding the state of the environment in Europe (http://reports.eea.eu.int/).
Today, this approach is widely used locally, nationally and internationally
(http://www.apat.gov.it/site/it-IT/APAT/Pubblicazioni/Annuario_dei_dati_ambientali).
The study will consist in a wide-ranging activity of collection, analysis and interdisciplinary integration of the knowledge currently available about the state of the lagoon, recently produced by the many Bodies and Institutions operating on the lagoon territory.
Thetis will avail itself of the collaboration of experts from the world of research in order to develop some subjects. The results will be summarised in a book.
The conclusion of the project has been forecasted for December 2006.
