UITP: Thetis Signs the Sustainable Development Charter
On 9 June, 2009 in Vienna at the 58th UITP World Congress and Exhibition, in the presence of the outgoing President of the UITP engineer Roberto Cavalieri and the Secretary General of the UITP Hans Rat, Thetis signed the Sustainable Development Charter, earning the privilege to take part in the workgroup of UITP members dealing with this important issue.
The UITP’s commitment to environmental sustainability arose from a belief that sustainable mobility benefits the environment, promotes social justice and is also economically feasible. Public transport represents a fundamental element that is indispensible for achieving the social, environmental and economic objectives of sustainable mobility. The UITP, its members, including our company, and the public transport sector in general, are committed to meeting this challenge, and the creation of the UITP Sustainable Development Charter is an indication of this commitment.
By signing the UITP Charter, Thetis reaffirms its own strategic commitment to sustainable development, which it formally adopted in 2001 by signing the Thetis Charter and obtaining ISO 14000 and EMAS certification, and continues to play a leading role with respect to this particular issue.
