Spazio Thetis Brings Art from Veneto to Brussels

28 June 2010 – On 7 July 2010, a solo exhibition by Claudia Buttignol, an artist from Veneto, will open in Brussels. This event is the first in a series of solo exhibitions jointly organized by Spazio Thetis, the Veneto Region and the Italian Cultural Institute.

Spazio Thetis is expanding its reach outside of Italy for the first time by assisting in this project, which is designed to increase awareness of the works of Veneto artists in an international context, particularly as it takes place in a city that is the heart of the European Community and one of the most animated and stimulating capitals of contemporary culture.
Thanks to this project, the Veneto Region will also have an opportunity to start a collection of works donated by the artists. The collection will be a valuable testimony to the art of our times and, more importantly, a physical record of the collaboration between two important institutions and Thetis, a company that has been striving for many years to stimulate an appreciation for local and international artistic heritage.
The first exhibition in the series, featuring the works of Claudia Buttignol, will be held in two different venues in Brussels from 7 July to 27 August. In the first venue, the Veneto Region’s Brussels Office, the artist’s works will “inhabit" the space, permeating areas normally reserved for working. In the Italian Cultural Institute, on the other hand, her works will be displayed in a single exhibition space, thereby enhancing their impact and allowing visitors to interpret them in a more systematic manner.
Born in the Province of Treviso, Claudia Buttignol currently lives and works in Conegliano. The artist, who has a degree in humanities as well as a one from the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, has incorporated multiple techniques in her works for more than twenty years, demonstrating her continued interest in experimentation with materials and providing evidence of her works’ roots in Informal painting.
As her paintings are created through the overlapping of layer upon layer of colour, the search for the deeper meaning of her works involves a sort of archaeological exploration of the soul that is realized through an inverse process of digging into the past.
Through her continuous, arduous artistic exploration (that is not without sharp self-criticism), Claudia Buttignol conceals and exposes her most intimate experiences in her works, in a perpetual encounter/battle with the world that surrounds her.
