Thetis - All made in Arsenale Venice

Press release

Thetis is technical sponsor of the “Corrente in Movimento” project

12-04-2011 – Thetis, an engineering company with headquarters in the historic Venice Arsenal, is active in the development and management of projects and innovative technological applications relating to the environment, regional planning and energy, as well as civil engineering, construction supervision, intelligent transport systems and knowledge systems.

Our company has gained solid experience working on important Italian and international projects. In fact, Thetis played a leading role in performing the sustainability assessment analysis for the islands in Chongming County (China), conducted studies relating to sustainable mobility management in Beijing (China) and New Delhi (India) and participated in numerous projects in other countries, including Croatia, Romania, Libya and Thailand.

Thetis’ participation as a technical sponsor for the Corrente in Movimento project arises from the company’s portfolio of highly technical and strategic integrated services that it offers in three key high energy-consumption sectors:
• Construction
• Industry
• Transport

The energy consumption in these three sectors is at the root of today’s environmental problems and is attracting the attention of the international community. These sectors are also the subject of important climate and energy agreements that form the basis of policies designed to stabilize and relaunch the finance sector and the economy.

The services that Thetis offers to the three abovementioned sectors are primarily:
• Sustainable building design and regional planning, following the LEED® protocol promoted internationally by the Green Building Council. Thetis can assist the client throughout the entire process, including the initial concept, preliminary planning, final construction plans, energy modelling, construction supervision and final certification, in accordance with the LEED® protocol or other similar complex rating systems;
• Consulting services to determine the carbon footprint of both industrial processes and products, consulting services to identify strategies to reduce the carbon footprint and energy consumption over the medium and long term, operational planning for projects designed to reduce the energy consumption of industrial processes, handling the obtainment of incentives and Energy Efficiency Credits, and ESCO (Energy Service Company) services;
• Designing solutions to reduce the energy consumption and emissions of fleets of both public and commercial vehicles (land and sea), making use of integrated solutions to manage the fleet, electric mobility and energy production from renewable sources.

It therefore seemed logical and appropriate for Thetis to become a technical partner for the “Corrente in Movimento” project – the first tour of Italy by electric car – planned for 8 May to 21 June. The project is promoted by the Corrente in Movimento Association and sponsored by the Ministry of the Environment.

For the project, Thetis will provide hardware and software to track the position of the 500 electric vehicles that will be the protagonists of this tour of Italy. The hardware consists of a satellite positioning system that continually transmits the vehicle’s location, speed and any other on-board data to a control centre. The vehicles will be equipped with a satellite navigation system that, in addition to providing basic navigation functions, is able to interact with the route planning system at the control centre and also with on-board devices, reading the battery charge level and checking it against the availability of recharge stations (both slow and fast) in the vicinity.

The system provided by Thetis will therefore have two main user interfaces:
1. The project website, where it will be possible to see the location of the vehicle in real time, as well as information on the speed and the route completed, and to consult a reporting system that allows the user to check the vehicle's performance on individual segments of the course;
2. Directly on-board the vehicle, where the driver can see the vehicle’s position and the route to follow, as well as the nearest recharge stations.
The system is therefore configured as a pilot version of a complete platform for managing complex electric mobility systems that integrate with management and operational infrastructure.
