The Climate Savers Project promoted by WWF International, is a voluntary collaboration between some of the world’s leading corporations and WWF to show leadership in reducing emissions and mitigate climate change. Thetis provided technical assistance to WWF in the commitment of the first Italian companies joining the programme: the Gruppo Sofidel tissue paper company and the Gruppo Mutti tomato sauce producer.
With Sofidel the preparation path consisted in consulting the company in the definition and optimization of the GHG inventory, identification and quantification of the reduction measures by means of energy efficiency, better energy management and renewable energy plants, and co-generation in the 25 installation throughout Europe. Improvement targets have been shared and negotiated with WWF. The assignment included the calculation of indirect emissions (“Scope 3” as defined by the GHG Protocol), caused by the logistic, supply chain of raw materials, distribution of final products, commuting of personnel.
With Gruppo Mutti, one of the main Italian pulped tomatoes producer, our task included the carbon footprint calculation (direct and electricity indirect emissions, Scope 1 and Scope 2 as defined by the GHG Protocol), the base year identification, the estimation of potential savings, the definition of an ambitious reduction target and the definition of specific actions to achieve the reduction target.
