Pre-construction monitoring of seawater turbidity and the velocity and direction of the current was performed by installing four stations equipped with automatic measuring instruments, which were placed in various locations in the Port of Vado Ligure; this data will be used for the “Definitive and final plan: execution of the construction work for the new multipurpose wharf for the Port of Vado Ligure and management of the container terminal section”. The direction and speed of the wind were contemporaneously measured by a meteorological station installed for this purpose. All of these stations collected measurements over a 6 week period. During this same period, water samples were taken at different time intervals to measure the concentration of suspended solids. Grandi Lavori Fincosit SpA will use these measurements to study and predict the dynamics of sediment dispersion in relation to weather and sea conditions during the construction of the multipurpose wharf. This will enable suitable operational strategies to be formulated to protect valuable natural/environmental areas in the zone
