Thetis, in collaboration with Studio Architetto Ugo Camerino, competed in the international design competition announced by ANAS and was awarded third place. The subject of the competition, which attracted the participation of important figures in architecture and engineering, was a preliminary design for the construction of the entrance to the A4 motorway tunnel traversing the Mestre area. The underlying concept of the project submitted in the competition was the use of architecture as a mediating element between the natural and artificial environments in the critical areas where the motorway's path transitions from the countryside to the tunnel and vice versa. The project proposed innovative solutions designed to create a gradual visual transition for the motorists entering and exiting the tunnel under various meteorological and light conditions, limit noise pollution and direct the exhaust fumes as far as possible from the populated urban areas. Therefore, in addition to the architectural, structural and hydraulic aspects, the design also addressed lighting engineering, noise pollution, safety and fitting the project into the environment and landscape.
