Since 1998 Thetis has developed and co-ordinated surveys and investigations into the margins and into the building of the Venice Arsenal, with the aim of producing information and the knowledge necessary for the planning of safety and restoration operations to be put into place.The main activities undertaken to date are as follows:
- surveys for the technical and historical characterisation of the margins of the Arsenal: topographical and architectonic surveys of the margins, stratigraphic surveys and mapping of the deterioration, geognostic surveys, historical and general organisation of more than 5,000 m of outer walls built between the 13th and the 20th centuries;
- preparatory surveys and investigations into the placing in safety of the warehouses of the Galeazze and of the Fonderie (16th century): Topographical, architectural e stratigraphic surveys of the buildings on the Novissima Grande of the Arsenal, geognostic surveys, and trials on the materials;
- topographical surveys and mapping of the deterioration of the Torre di Porta Nuova (19th century), photogrammetric and underwater surveys of the margins of the old wet dock and of the Galeazze;
- preparatory topographic and photogrammetric surveys to the planning of the operations on the three warehouses of San Cristoforo.
