Commissioned: Comune di Salerno
Period: 2009
Country: Italia
The objective of the project is to create a preliminary design to protect, improve and valorise the coast in the municipality of Salerno, specifically the section from Manfredi dock in the commercial port to the mouth of the Irno River (Area 1).The project was awarded ex aequo to the group composed of Thetis SpA (mandatary), C. Lotti & Associati of Rome and to the studios Giannattasio and Guiducci as a result of the international competition announced in 2008 by the municipality of Salerno.
The project provides for coastal defence works (two submerged breakwaters to replace the existing exposed reef; beach replenishment to ensure a beach width of at least 20 m, with two lateral containment groynes), the widening of a 280 m stretch of the S. Teresa beach, and the enlargement of the Masuccio Salernitano Port with the construction of a new dock adjacent to the existing dock (increasing the number of available boat spaces to 700).
