Development of a portable unit to be used by port pilots, aimed at the display of a Tactical Traffic Image (i.e. the waterborne traffic image of direct interest to the Pilot) to help the user to better and safely navigate the ship to destination within the area of interest.
The system is composed of:
- the portable unit, installed on board the ship by the Pilot himself;
- a ground station, interfaced to the land traffic services;
- a communication system to shore (VHF + GPRS).
The project, co-financed by the European Union, is carried out by a consortium of 12 European Companies led by QinetQ, UK. Thetis is the partner in charge of system assembly and integration. EMPA, the European Maritime Pilot Association is the partner in charge of User Requirement Definition.
