Design and production of a Regional Information System for Contaminated Sites (SIS) in an integrated ESRI and Oracle environment.As part of the Monitoring of Contaminated Sites in Sardinia project, a considerable volume of data was produced when the various industries located in Assemini - Macchiareddu, Sarroch, Porto Torres and Ottana conducted environmental characterization of these industrial sites.
In addition, the project generated new alphanumeric and geographical data resulting from the design and production of a monitoring network in these areas; this network consists of piezometers, surveys, superficial excavations, automatic monitoring systems (CTD sensors), and groundwater and surface water sampling campaigns.
All of the data described above was added to an Oracle database connected to an ESRI geodatabase, and advanced user interfaces were developed for consulting data and presenting results via an internet browser or appropriately personalized ESRI ArcGIS software.
The primary activities performed were:
- designing the system, or rather designing the system’s architecture, designing the Oracle relational database, designing the ESRI geodatabase, designing the query interface and presentation via Internet browser, designing the layers and personalized query functions and visualization with ESRI ArcGIS software
- development, testing and installation of the system
- designing and producing an application tool for automatically adding data from the remote monitoring systems (CTD sensors)
- designing and producing an application tool based on interfaces that can be visualized with an internet browser for adding data to the Oracle database
