Thetis provided specialized technical assistance to the Beijing Environmental Protection Bureau in the preparation of a Master Plan for pollution control in the Miyun Lake hydrographic basin, Beijing’s principal source of drinking water. The European DPSIR approach was applied to identify the pressures and stresses that impact the water quality and ecological condition of the water body.The water quality objectives for the lake were thereby defined, based on the anticipated uses, and the maximum permitted pollutant loads were calculated; in addition, the operational guidelines were determined as were the immediate pollution control measures.
Specifically, the informational material made available by the client was supplemented by applying the modern techniques of remote sensing, which provided important details regarding the soil in the vast portion of the hydrographic basin lying outside the administrative borders of the City of Beijing.
