Venice public transport fleet management and passengers information system

Commissioned: Actv - Azienda del Consorzio Trasporti Veneziano

Period: 2004 - 2008

Country: Italia

Design, development, provisioning and installation of a complete system for managing ACTV’s fleet of urban and interurban vehicles. This solution, which is integrated with the transport service’s scheduling system, allows for the management of approximately 150 water buses in the Venice lagoon and 600 buses on land.

The system comprises: a control centre that includes a cluster server and 15 terminals for operators located in the transport service’s remote operations centres; a GPRS-based communication network for communicating with the vehicles in real time; 15 depots equipped with Wireless LAN for exchanging data with vehicles at the end of the shift; a user information system that includes 10 information boards (placed at certain bus stops) and 45 LED panels (placed at the main water bus stops); and on-board systems that interface with the contactless ticket readers (iMob), the bus line indicators and the audio-visual announcement equipment that are capable of communicating with the operations centre via GPRS and WLAN.
Since 2008, Thetis has provided assistance and maintenance service for the AVM system, including help-desk service, systems assistance, maintenance of central and on-board equipment, as well as assistance and on-site support at the depots and ACTV offices.
