Analysis and design of a multi-access, distributed information system aimed at the integrated management of the logistic chains of the Northern Adriatic ports. Development of a demonstration prototype. The VTMIS (Vessel Traffic Management and Information System) shares information relating to ship traffic and transported loads among all interested users, through keyword-based functional profiles.The system handles EDI information relating to ship traffic, time of arrival, pilot services, terminal services, port infrastructure management, customs clearance, road transport and railway transport interface etc. As for traffic data, the system is designed to communicate with existing VTS centres.
The concept is applicable to both port traffic and inland navigation traffic. For inland navigation applications, voyage planning applications and navigation infrastructure information will also be provided by the system, such as fairway information, gates information etc.
