The conference “Protecting Coastal Cities from Sea Level Rise”, organised by the Venice Foundation World Capital of Sustainability with the support of The European House – Ambrosetti, Consorzio Venezia Nuova, CORILA, Iuav University of Venice and Ve.La S.p.A., was held on Friday 21 July at the IUAV University of Venice.

The aim of the conference was to investigate, with a view that embraces the entire planet, the present and future sustainability of measures to adapt to rising sea levels in the urban context; through a comparison with realities from all over the world.
As part of the conference, measures adopted in the city of Venice to protect historic buildings, civil dwellings and urban areas were presented.

In particular, Thetis was represented by arch. Francesco Lanza, head of Thetis’ engineering department, spoke on the delicate topic of securing St. Mark’s Square from tidal events.
