Thetis has provided its expertise to support numerous initiatives developed both in Europe and the Mediterranean.

In particular, Thetis carried out the following activities:

  • Contribution to the drafting of the Maritime Spatial Plan of Italy: analysis of the interactions (conflicts and synergies) between different uses of the sea and preparation of the Plan Proposal for the Adriatic maritime area, by operating in particular in the marine areas of the Marche and Veneto regions (consultancy for CNR-ISMAR of Venice, EMFF MSP-MED Project, 2020-2022).
  • Analysis of the presence and potential development of multi-use actions in the marine space in Europe, by involving a wide arena of local stakeholders and contributing to the publication of the “Ocean Multi-Use Action Plan” (Horizon 2020 Project MUSES, 2016-2018).
  • Analysis of the impacts of maritime transport on Mediterranean marine protected areas and possible management measures, through the development of case studies and the proposal of recommendations for stakeholders (Interreg-MED PHAROS4MPAs project, 2017-2019).
  • Focal point for the eastern Mediterranean basin within the framework of the European MSP platform, financed by the European Commission (DG MARE). The platform is a tool for sharing knowledge and experience to support member states in the implementation of the European Directive on maritime spatial planning.
  • Drafting of guidelines, then tested in pilot applications, to support maritime spatial planning in Eastern and Western Mediterranean EU Member States and implement cross-border cooperation initiatives (DG MARE SUPREME Projects, 2017-2018 and SIMWESTMED, 2017- 2018).
  • Various consultancy services for PAP/RAC (Priority Actions Programme/ Regional Activity Centre), the reference center of the UNEP/MAP (UN Environmental Programme/Mediterranean Action Plan) which operates within the framework of the Barcelona Convention for the protection of the environment marine and coastal strip of the Mediterranean. Specifically, Thetis contributed to the construction of the Mediterranean MSP workspace, a shared workspace that allows for the access to information and operational tools to support marine and coastal planning.
