The Management Plan of the River Basins of the Eastern Alps (Italy) represents the operational tool, established within the European Water Framework Directive, to plan, implement and monitor the measures for the protection and improvement of all surface and groundwater bodies.
In the years 2009-2010, 2014-2015 and 2020-2021, Thetis provided technical services for the Venice Water Authority, through its concessionaire Consorzio Venezia Nuova, for the drafting of the first plan (2010) and related periodic updates (2015 and 2021). Thetis’ involvement specifically refers to the Venice lagoon which falls completely within the Eastern Alps hydrographic district.
In particular, Thetis participated in various coordination meetings organized by the District Authority together with all the other institutions involved in the Plan preparation. Furthermore, it provided contributions to the chemical and ecological classification of lagoon water bodies, analyzed pressures and impacts, co-defined quality objectives as well as, in close collaboration with the Venice Water Authority, elaborated the Program of Interventions for the improvement of the state of water bodies. Finally, within this process, Thetis organized all the monitoring data in the format required by the Water Information System for Europe (WISE), collaborating to the reporting mechanism of the Water Framework Directive..
