Thetis, through the “Consorzio Venezia Nuova”(CVN) company, designed the “Safeguarding Interventions to the Insula of St.Mark’s Square” from hydraulic risk for the Interregional Authority for Public Works (OOPPs), and the” Paviment Restoration of St. Mark's Square” for the City of Venice.

St. Mark’s Square is one of the lowest areas of the city, thus it has been provided to keep it dry even during the presence of a high tide lower than the activation level of the Mose system.
For this reason, the project provided the following interventions:

  • cleaning and rehabilitation of the existing tunnel network;
  • reorganization of mixed portions of the sewerage network and maintenance of the historic tunnels dedicated exclusively to the disposal of rainwater;
  • execution of localized increases and protections;
  • installation of a rainwater collecting system necessary for high tide events;
  • installation of a floating breakwater;
  • realization of a pumping system under the “Todaro” pier.

The Municipality of Venice subsequently commissioned Thetis to design the “Restoration of the Pavement of St. Mark Square’s” to be carried out at the same time as the construction site activities. Both projects under the Management Works of Thetis are in progress.
