Thetis was commissioned, as part of the PEPSEA Project, funded by the Interreg V-A Italy-Croatia Territorial Cooperation Program 2014-2020, to draw up the Study for the Environmental Morphological Plan of the Caleri Lagoon and the Sacca del Canarin.
The analysis of the current state highlighted the need for interventions firstly aimed at improving the physical and hydrodynamic aspects of the two lagoons and secondly at promoting the enhancement of the ecosystem in terms of biodiversity and landscape, towards a more typical lagoon conformation of these transitional environments.
The morphological plan provides for interventions aimed at maintaining the functioning of the sea inlets, at maintaining and, where possible, at improving the hydrodynamic circulation in the lagoon area, through:
- the increase of morphological diversity;
- the reinforcement of the sandbars;
- the contrast of erosion;
- the conservation and increase of biodiversity;
- the reduction of the impacts determined by freshwater inputs to favor the optimal conditions for the development of plant and animal communities typical of transition areas, and also to safeguard the socio-economic context, i.e. areas linked to the fishing sectors, shellfish farming, and tourism..
